An open design concept transforms a conventional shopping mall to a new urban centre.

During the age of online shopping, the design goal is not only to upgrade the existing mall, but also revitalize the whole site and create an urban social heart for visitors and make the best use of the location with immediate access from Alberta’s busiest highway and adjacent international airport. Open-air boulevards are designed with new architecture and landscapes for shops, restaurants and entertainment facilities which are planned and designed with a series of vibrant social zones bringing people together.

New architectural designs are integrated with existing buildings in a respectful way through material contrast and structural articulation to reflect the history and new life of the buildings. Colonnade structures are designed in front of storefronts along the main street to provide transitional zones between indoor and outdoor environments, and enrich the pedestrian experience with different scales. The featured Food Lodge located at the heart of the main street creates a central hub for the public zones.
