HIGHSTREET

ABBOTSFORD

The project brings the ideas of open-air shopping and urban social experience together, and creates a new environment which is different from typical indoor shopping mall design. Situated at the west side of Abbotsford, the project is designed as a social heart for the Fraser Valley Area and it accommodates a collection of shops, restaurants, anchor stores, a eleven-screen movie theatre, and offices in one convenient location immediately adjacent to Trans-Canada Highway. The design concept features the main shopping streets and plaza areas on the podium level with one and two storey buildings, together with a parking level underneath.

There are three vertical circulation systems connecting the podium level and the 1,400 covered parking stalls at the lower level for effective access. Simple and unique architectural language is used for different types of commercial activities for a more coherent environment. Along with contemporary architecture and landscape designs, the open-air design provides a new experience for the visitors with special events and celebrations year round. The project is also a Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED) certified project making it one of the first in Canada for larger scale retail projects.
