MERIDIAN CENTRE

ST. CATHARINES

Located in the downtown core of St. Catharines, this project serves as a major catalyst for the City’s downtown revitalization strategies. The new building acts as a gateway to reinforce the City’s vision for a new cultural and entertainment precinct. The facility provides more than 5,000 fixed seats with a three-level and open concourse design. The architecture features two major pedestrian bridges connecting the building entrances to St. Paul Street, serving as both symbolic and physical links to the downtown main street. The two major transparent public entry towers provide public access to the building from the upper street level or from the lower street level. The featured sculptural roof design of the architecture is visible from the approach roads on the east side of the site as well as the higher eye level of St. Paul Street. The massing and articulation of the east facade on McGuire Street echo the rhythm of the narrow buildings of St. Paul Street, making the overall design blend with the existing site context.
