This project suggests an alternative solution to the use of precious land in Hong Kong. Taking the advantages of the double height space and attractive exterior view over Victioria Harbour, the interior design provides an inspiring studio space for a group of designers even with a low construction budget. The vertical characteristic is presented as an entrance lobby meeting place to create a dramatic arrival experience and provide privacy for the working areas behind. A storage space is designed at the entrance meeting space with concealed doors. Behind the entrance screen, the working stations are planned besides the main window for the amazing exterior view.
A second meeting place is planned at the end of work space beside the window as a small social space. Ascending the staircase, there is a small library behind another working area on the upper level. Existing structural beam is adopted as a part of the lighting design by means of fluorescent lights with light-shields running through the whole studio ceiling. The key idea of the project is to create a dramatic sense of entrance, and provide efficient work spaces.
